AECC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials (hereinafter referred to as "BIAM") was founded on May 26, 1956. It is a comprehensive scientific research institution in China mainly engaged in the fundamental research on the application of advanced aviation materials, research on material development and application technology, engineering technology research, development and delivery of key components as well as small-batch production, and model application. It is an important part of the national scientific and technological innovation system.
BIAM currently has 75 research directions in 17 material technology fields, covering metallic materials, non-metallic materials, composite materials, preparation & manufacture processes, and testing & evaluation, etc. Adhering to the dual-driven strategy of scientific and technological innovation and engineering application, it has established 10 national and 19 provincial/ministerial laboratories and centers, as well as 4 national production demonstration lines.
BIAM is one of the earliest scientific research institutions authorized by the State Council to confer master's and doctoral degrees in multiple disciplines. Since its establishment, BIAM has been continuously building itself into a "cradle for materials scientists and a fertile land for outstanding engineers". It has cultivated four academicians, hundreds of renowned domestic materials experts and academic leaders. It has accumulated more than 2,600 scientific and technological achievements of various types and over 4,600 patents, forming rich knowledge resources and core technical accumulation.
